Accessible Renovation and Adaption

ACCESSIBILITY & ADAPTATION

Making your buildings fully accessible

Research by The Family Resources has revealed that 14.1 million people in the UK live with a disability. We understand the need to help these individuals live independently, comfortably and enjoyably. As specialists in accessibility, Arrow Developments have breathed new life into hundreds of buildings, making them fully accessible and more secure.

We have provided major and minor adaptations on both public and private properties. Past projects have included brand-new accessible extensions, as well as adapted kitchens and bathrooms. In addition, we can offer a wide range of disabled-friendly solutions in other areas of the home, such as the hallway, bedroom and garage.

General accessibility

  • Widening doorways: Depending on the age of the property and the approach route, Building Regulations require a door opening width from at least 75cm to 100cm.
  • Ensuring step-free entry: Making external adaptations such as removing any awkward steps to a front entrance can significantly reduce the risk of an accident, and are a necessity for wheelchair users.
  • Fitting access ramps: Installing access ramps will help eliminate issues, such as changes in floor level.
  • Installing anti-slip surfaces: Accidents can be prevented by installing anti-slip surfaces in areas that are prone to wetness, like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Placing switches and controls at convenient heights: As Building Regulations require new homes to have switches, controls and socket outlets at least 45cm and up to 120cm from floor level, it is simply good practice to adopt this when updating older properties.
  • Installing automatic doors: Automatic doors are essential for those with mobility issues. They can be operated by a button, switch or remotely through a smartphone.

“They completed a job in an exceptionally tight timeframe of 3 weeks as the client had to go into respite care whilst the works took place. It was a tough ask to complete the amount of work in such a short time. Still, Arrow persevered so the client could return home as quickly as possible within the initial 3-week time frame.”
